I've found that there's a lot of stuff i haven't got. Some i can't get, Better Than Today, no longer available. Some i had no idea existed and i'm hoping that if you're all still around you can give me some background.

The tracks on the rarities list, where are they from? Most sound quite old so i'm thinking they're DFS/Fires era or earlier. Would anyone care to englighten me?

I personally feel it's a pretty huge departure from Fires, but it's not a bad thing at all.
Like Nerina has said it's very much more pop, than the last record, and actually makes me relate it much more to DFS.
It's very hard to say which album I prefer of the three, or even if they are comparable.
I just hope to hell that this one does 'the business' as it's long overdue for the lady.

It's such a radio friendly album, and I know she's radio 2's sweetheart, but I do hope for single number 2, Radio 1 playlist her as well. As that (sadly) does seem to be just about the only way to score a hit now-a-days.

I think the singles should be -
1. Real Late Starter.
2. I Don't Want To Go Out (Confirmed by Nerina herself, not sure on the release date though). I think it would work best around January time.
3. Coming Home (doubtful though, I have a strong feeling it'll be Human).
4. Everything's Illuminated! (I think if there's a 4th single it'll be The Right Side though).

I'd also love to see It Was Me be a single, and have a beautiful black & white video, but I think that's a dream that's not gonna happen.

At the time I was in the middle of watching Joss Whedon’s ‘Angel’ (the Buffy spinoff) and thought that the chick laughing at the end of that clip looked kind of like Amy Acker. So I searched Nerina Pallot (I suppose to see if she really did look like Amy Acker?) and the first video I watched was this live performance of Idaho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70KJpsqoLMc. It’s still one of my favourite performances of anything, by anyone.

I watched a couple of the other videos there, namely the studio version of Halfway Home and the film clip for Learning to Breathe, unfortunately, they didn’t grab me at all. I’m not really a fan of pop music – most of my CD collection leans towards grunge, punk and stuff like that. But I kept watching that Idaho performance, over and over, until I felt compelled to give her other stuff another chance – this time I watched live performances of Sophia and Geek Love.

Needless to say, I had to get the studio versions after that – and given that it was about 2am and Brisbane is sadly lacking in 24 hour CD shops, I took the shameful step of downloading Fires (the remastered version) via uTorrent. Probably the most worthwhile illegal thing I’ve ever done. Anyway, after one listen through, I was absolutely hooked. I remember thinking Damascus and of course Idaho really stood out, and also wanting to pick up my guitar right at the beginning of Heart Attack to play the little intro riff. By the time Nickindia drew to a close I think I was in some kind of trance.

It was after about four listens through that I realised there wasn’t a single song on that record I didn’t like. I’ve got a theory that the fourth or fifth listen through an album is usually the best – you’ve heard it enough times to be familiar with where the songs are going, but it’s still new enough for you to be able to find unexpected things in the music. After that I’ll usually add a few more albums to the listening cycle, or listen to a few of the tracks individually, or else it gets to the point where I find I haven't listened to the whole album again for six months. The bizarre thing about Fires, though, is it didn’t seem to have reached that point – it was just getting better with each listen.

After about fifteen listens through, I went and illegally downloaded Dear Frustrated Superstar (sorry Nerina). Not a masterpiece, sure, but still a great album, with some amazing songs on there.

I’ve now listened through Fires thirty-seven times, am still not sick of it, and I probably consider it my favourite album. Dear Frustrated Superstar has racked up 21 goes through. I don’t usually go for the whole fan-scene-thing, but there’s something about Nerina’s music that made me look for fan sites (and brought me here). I think it’s partly the fact that it’s very different from a lot of the other stuff I listen to, so I want to see how other people appreciate it. Also, I think my worst nightmare at the moment is waking up one day to find her official site back up (it’s been down for weeks at the moment), with her blog saying something like “My quick tour of Australia went really well”, so I need to make sure I’m up on all the news. Also, she’s freakin’ gorgeous.

I still haven’t actually bought any of her CDs – none of the shops have Fires in stock (and DFS is pretty much unavailable isn’t it?), but as soon as I’m not stone broke I’m going to try to get them online. Every time I see sales figures for either album I feel guilty.

Each song will be brand new, apparently, except for one that has been played live. With what she said about the Buckminster tracks not fitting with the rest of the album, I'm thinking the Junebug EP might be in the same vein as Buckminster Fuller, in which case the track that's been played live might be a quieter one like Heidi or Human?
